No, we are not a school and do not offer classes. This is a proficiency based testing program.

Certification adds to your credibility as a competent, experienced sewing professional which clients look for and appreciate. It promotes asssurance in your skills over other dressmakers and alteration shops. It allows you to charge more for your work because your clients know they are getting the best professional work. It gives you the reputation of being a reputable business, meeting customers’ sewing and alterations needs.

These certifications can refine your techniques, sharpen your skills and fill in those little gaps of knowledge. It gives you confidence in your abilities. It affirms your knowledge and encourages you to excel even more.

No, you do not need to have a sewing business. The requirements to achieve certification are knowledge and the ability to demonstrate technical skills needed to complete each module.

You have 2 years to complete the program.

You have an option for another year extension as long as you have completed at least 2 modules. There is an additional cost of $100 for the extension.

It is recommended that you find classes or teachers that can help you acquire the needed skills, prior to registering for the program. However, it is fine to continue to take classes in areas that you are weak as you are working on the modules that you are more skilled in.

The time required to complete each module is based on your knowledge and the time you have to devote to it. For example, you may find that completing the garment construction module may take very little time because you may have already completed and have some of the samples and garments required. On the other hand you may find that fashion illustration may take you longer to complete the drawing required.

You can start with any module you desire. You determine which module to start based on your assessments of the time factors you will need to devote to each module.

No, it cannot be fully completed online, however there are several components of the certification process that require on-line testing or submittal.

Yes, you can. If you exceed two resubmittals, you will be charged for any subsequent resubmittals.

No, they are only suggested texts in case you need more information on a particular module.

Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) are coursework you accomplish to further your skillset after completion of the program. This can be in the form of taking sewing related classes, trade shows, workshops, writing articles or teaching classes.

Yes, all graduated members are mentors. You can choose a graduate of your acquaintance that you know personally, or one can be assigned. It is up to you as a participant.
